Superpowers

Product Design

Universal design

Over 15% of people in the world manage physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities. Users see, hear, move and think in extremely different ways. With Universal Design, everyone should be able to use your software, no matter their limitations.

User research

Understanding the needs of users is paramount to the success of any flow, feature or product. I learn everything I can about the target user and then iteratively test my designs throughout the process with folks from the same user segment.

Usability

I strive to design and innovate a superior experience for the user, whether it be flow, feature or product. I often measure this using something similar to the EES  (effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction) framework, ensuring a truly well-rounded experience for the user.

Design leadership

people-driven

It’s a leader’s job to create a safe work environment where people feel their well-being and psychological safety is a top priority. When the leadership team is empathetic, they put their team members’ needs first.

Research also shows that employees who have empathetic leaders report more innovation, are less likely to leave a job, and less likely to burn out.

communication

When you lead with curiosity, empathy and kindness people feel safe talking to you about issues that are considered extremely personal.

It is no surprise, as a large part of a leader's job involves communicating content and strategies internally and externally. Successful communication requires a diplomatic touch - for me, this is an incredibly important leadership quality.

player / coach

I want nothing more than to help up-skill and push other designers to get better in their craft.

In order to avoid that "creative rut", we should have the tools and tricks to open up our team's minds to new ideas or approaches. Great leaders can push themselves and their teams outside of these comfort zones. Sometimes this means getting into the weeds with them.

Being an ethical & inclusive designer does not mean that you get things right 100% of the time

Being an ethical and inclusive designer means that you actively care about ALL people using your products, and make the conscious choice to design in the best way for everyone.

project work

#Instant Payouts by Wave

During my time at Wave, I worked on a project centred around Instant Payouts. Instant Payouts changes the way small businesses manage their cash flow day-to-day. Rather than waiting the typical payment processing times—up to five business days—Instant Payouts allows business owners to use the money they’ve earned immediately to grow their business or pay expenses.

With faster access to their money, small business owners can run their organizations better—which is a boon for their clients as well.

cross-functional collaboration

#Product, design & data process

A good product, design and data delivery process was designed to help increase company’s efficiency and reduce the amount of time and effort spent. It was important to assign tasks to individuals and ensure everyone knows how their role impacts the overall process, making sure the teams run as smoothly as possible.

With a solid delivery process, orgs are able to provide an accurate, repeatable and timely delivery for their products.

REFACTOR, REBRAND, & REFRESH

#Refactoring & refreshing the app

Whilst at Vetster, we decided to engage a design agency to refresh our branding ready for a very busy and exciting year for the company. Given that this rebrand and refactor was prompted by a change in our target audience (from acute care needs to ongoing maintenance), and a shift in products & services as we continued to grow; we had a lot of work ahead of us!

Leading this project allowed me to sync with key business stakeholders, get to know the new business (and brand) vision, as well as understanding where Vetster was aiming to go, and how it intended to move forward as a business.

building process

#Discovery & framing sprint process

Discoveries are crucial to setting design projects off in the right direction by focusing on the right problems and, consequently, building the right thing. This is a preliminary phase in the product design process that involves researching the problem space, framing the problem(s) to be solved, and gathering enough evidence or initial direction on what to do next.

Exploratory research helps us discover and understand the problem.
